Casual Midi Skirt Outfit With Sneakers
A midi skirt outfit with sneakers is an easy, effortless choice. If you are unsure about looking frumpy, I suggest wearing sneakers that are similar to your skin tone. The point is the lengthen the leg line and if the shoes have a lot going on with them or are drastically different from your skin, it will seem to shorten your legs. Also, choose low-top sneakers so more of your foot is showing.

Wear Heels For An Elevated Spring Outfit
Another way to make a midi skirt outfit look less frumpy is to wear heels. Anytime you want to make your legs appear longer, add heels. If the color of your heels does not match your skin, opt for a pair without an ankle strap as the ankle strap will make your legs appear stumpy. I can get away with it in this outfit because the shoes are the same color as my skin.

Midi Skirt Outfit For Summer
A flowy midi skirt is a great option for summer, especially if you don’t want to wear shorts. You can dress it up or dress it down and because of the flowy nature of the skirt it allows air flow, which makes you feel cooler. If you don’t like your legs touching when it’s hot, try a pair of slip shorts like these or use an anti-chafe product like this one.

How To Wear A Midi Skirt Without Looking Frumpy
Midi skirts can be tricky to style, especially if you’re afraid of looking frumpy. I’ve already touched on a few options for shoes when it comes to lengthening your leg line, but here are a few other things to look out for when styling a midi skirt.
- The hem of the skirt should hit either right above or right below the widest part of your calf. If you’re having trouble finding one that hits perfectly, choose one that is slightly longer and then have a tailor hem it to the right spot. (Or you can sew it yourself if you’re crafty.)
- Tuck or tie your top at the smallest part of your waist. You can see in the photos above I have either tucked in my top or tied it so the eye is drawn to my waist rather than a wider part of me, like my hips. The eye will be drawn to anywhere there is a line. If you feel like a midi skirt (or any skirt) is making you look wider than you are, try tucking in your top.
- Wear a short jacket or cardigan. Similar to the above point, when choosing a jacket or cardigan to wear with a midi skirt, opt for one that hits above your hips. Cropped options are great for this.
- Shoe choices can make or break a midi skirt outfit. When in doubt, go with a heeled sandal or pumps. That will create the longest line, especially if the shoe matches your skin tone and there is a lot of your foot showing.
