If you’ve read any of my other blog posts, you know that I’m a huge fan of versatility in my wardrobe. Even though I love shopping for clothes, I hate buying something that I’m only going to wear one time. Which is why I’m so happy to share this summer wedding guest outfit with you. The only thing I bought new for this outfit was the shoes, but I’ve been wanting to get a pair of shoes like this for a while, and I’ll wear them with many more outfits than just this one.

Wedding Guest Outfit For Summer
I only had a few weeks to put together a summer wedding guest outfit for this wedding, and I didn’t want to buy a new dress, so I’m very proud of myself for (mostly) sticking to clothes I already own. The skirt was a bit of an impulse purchase last year (pandemic shopping, anyone?) but it’s turned out to be a really good buy for me. Since this wedding is a backyard affair and pretty casual, I didn’t want to go over the top with anything. Plus, I wanted to be cool and comfortable for being outside in late June.

Summer Wedding Guest Outfit Tips
I wanted to share a few tips for an outdoor, summer wedding guest outfit.
- Don’t wear skinny high heels. The more narrow the heel, the more chance you have of sinking in to the grass, especially if the ground is damp. Choose a block or wedge heel instead. This will also be more comfortable to stand and walk on uneven ground.
- Remember that the day is not about you. Yes, it’s fun to dress up for a celebration, but don’t overshadow the bride.
- You don’t have to buy a brand new outfit. With a few tweaks you can really dress up an outfit that you already own, like adding a pop of color or jewelry (see next point).
- Add statement jewelry. A wedding is the perfect occasion to pull out that fancy necklace, earrings, bracelet, etc. that’s too dressy for normal wear.
Below are a few examples of pieces you could wear to attend an outdoor summer wedding.

Attending a summer wedding outdoors? Stay stylish and comfortable by opting for breathable fabrics like cotton, chiffon, or linen. Flowy dresses in pastel shades or floral prints are perfect for the season. For a chic yet functional look, consider a light maxi dress or a midi with soft drapes.
