Spring is a great time to clean out your closet, store your winter clothes, and lighten up your wardrobe. I put together this mini spring capsule wardrobe using my spring wardrobe essentials. It’s a very casual wardrobe but I added a cute, statement top to add some spring flair. I’m calling this a “mini” capsule because there are only 15 items and it would be very easy to add in a few other items to round out a larger wardrobe. What Items Are In A Mini Spring Capsule Wardrobe
The items you choose for your capsule wardrobe need to fit your lifestyle, climate, and personal style. If you hate wearing white, then please do not add a white t-shirt and white jeans to your wardrobe just because I put it in the graphic. Or, if you have no need for rain boots, then choose another type of shoe that works for your climate. For someone who needs business casual clothes, swap out the t-shirts for blouses, the jeans for slacks, the jackets for blazers, and the sneakers for pumps or flats. The list below is a guideline that you can follow to create your own capsule wardrobe with items that work for you. And remember, before you go shopping, shop your own closet to see if you already have pieces that fit the bill.
- Neutral colored tops
- Patterned top with neutral colors (such as strips, polka dots, or another simple, repeating pattern)
- Colorful patterned top (it’s easiest to mix and match if the top has at least 1 neutral color in it)
- Blue jeans
- Neutral colored pants, leggings, or jeans
- One other pair of pants, leggings, or jeans that you like, can be in a color that coordinates with your tops
- Neutral colored cardigan
- Denim jacket
- One other neutral colored cardigan or jacket that you like (leather or suede moto jacket, canvas utility jacket, rain jacket, hoodie)
- Neutral colored sneaker (white sneakers look really sharp for spring)
- Neutral colored sandal
- Pair of rain boots or other boot
- One other pair of shoes that you like, this may depend on your climate
How To Make Outfits With A Spring Capsule Wardrobe
When creating a small capsule wardrobe, or any minimalist wardrobe, you should aim to mix and match your clothes as many ways as possible. If your clothes aren’t versatile, you’re going to struggle to create outfits and that’s when you might get bored with your clothes. This is why the majority of the items I chose are in neutral colors. Neutrals are the easiest colors to match so you don’t have to worry about clashing. As you can see, I added 1 top that has blue in it. I purposefully chose this blue, floral top because it has only 2 colors and one of those colors is a neutral (white). This means the top can be matched with everything else. In the graphic below I created 8 outfits but it’s not nearly all of the outfits that could be made with these pieces.
