Spring Fashion Try On Haul 2021

After completing a 2 month no-buy challenge for myself, I decided to do a spring fashion try on. 😁 It’s not too many items and some of them I ordered in multiple sizes so I have some returns to make. I got quite a few things during the friends and family sale at Banana Republic, things I probably wouldn’t have tried at full price. Let’s get into it!

Old Navy Spring Fashion Try On

ON Crewneck luxe t-shirts

If you’ve been here for any amount of time, you know I love the Old Navy luxe t-shirts. I have the v-neck version in 3 different colors so I thought I would try the crewneck. I wanted a couple of shirts to wear around the house and to bed and I know the luxe fabric is so soft and comfortable. These crewnecks come up pretty high so I don’t think they are as flattering as a v-neck, but I like them for pajamas/loungewear. The animal print one didn’t feel as soft for some reason so I sent that one back and kept the black and white ones. I’m wearing size S in the color ‘Gray Animal’ and XS in the colors ‘Black Heather’ and ‘Cream’. They also come in ‘tall’ if you want them to be longer. A friend asked me if they shrink in the dryer, and no, they do not.

ON Rockstar Dark Wash Skinny Jeans

I am always on the lookout for a good pair of dark wash skinny jeans. I think they are a closet staple that go with so many things and aren’t going to go out of style, like some people might have you believe. Sure, they’re not having a moment, but you show me a style of pants that is as versatile and I’ll pack away my skinny jeans for a year. I really like most Old Navy denim. Are they the best quality denim out there? No, but for the price point, they’re are really good. I think these are super flattering and don’t show all the lumps and bumps. They do not have much stretch to them but they feel very substantial and they don’t sag. I like that there is no distressing around the hips and they’re not so dark that the color would bleed a whole lot. I’m definitely keeping these to replace a pair of dark wash jeans in my closet that I didn’t like. They are called ‘high rise’ but when I measured it’s only 9.5 inches, which I would consider mid-rise. The Old Navy website never mentions the actual rise measurement, which is why I’m including it here. I’m wearing size 2 in the color ‘Rinse’.

ON Light Wash Skinny Jeans

I was not a fan of these. I wore them for about 30 minutes around the house and they sagged so much. The material is also very thin and just feels really low quality compared to the ones above. They are super soft and stretchy but I would be so annoyed if I have to yank them up every 30 minutes so they went back. I’m wearing size 2 in the color ‘Light Wash’. (I forgot to measure the rise before I sent them back, but usually their “high rise” is between 9.5 and 10 inches).

ON Leggings

Hello sculpting leggings! I’m super impressed with these. They take a little bit of work to get on but once they’re on they look and feel great. The waistband is wide, stays in place, and doesn’t dig in anywhere. The 7/8 length is very flattering, hitting right at the narrowest part of my lower leg. I’m keeping these and adding them to my workout great, replacing a pair I don’t like very much. I’m wearing size S in the color ‘Black Jack’.

ON Black Dress

First, I apologize for blinding you with my pale legs! Second, this dress looks way better in a photo than in person. The material is rough and thin and there’s nothing to keep the elastic waist from riding up. It could be a nice beach cover up, especially the leopard print one they have, but I’m sending it back. I’m wearing size S in the color ‘Black Jack’.

Banana Republic

BR Merino Wool Cardigan

A very light-weight cardigan that should be nice for spring and even summer with the A/C blasting. I love the pockets and the soft feel of the fabric. They have some really cute, spring colors but, of course, I opted for the black one! I like that it’s not a super long cardigan (I have enough of those) but it’s a little more casual than a shorter one you might wear for work. I’m wearing size S in the color ‘Black’.

BR Cotton-Hemp Cardigan

This cardigan feels so luxurious. It’s a heavier weight than the one above and is super warm and cozy. Plus, look at those buttons, they are so adorable! If this cardigan had pockets it would be a no-brainer to keep, but it doesn’t, and I know I’m going to be annoyed about that, so it’s going back. It’s also more expensive than the merino wool one (and it’s obvious from the way they feel) so if you want to grab it, wait for a sale. Also comes in other neutral colors, but they all have a fall look to me. I’m wearing size S in the color ‘Black’.

BR Curvy High-Rise Skinny Sculpt Jeans

I ordered these in 26 and 27 but the 27 was way too large since they are the “curvy” fit (which means there is more room in the butt, hip, thigh area). They have a decent amount of stretch to them but they keep their shape through the day. I’m going to keep the size 26 because they are very comfortable and I like having a couple of darker wash jeans to choose from, especially since these are more stretchy than the Old Navy ones. The only thing I don’t like is the leg opening, I wish it was more narrow, but I can always cuff them. I measured the rise at 10 inches so they are really more of a higher mid-rise than a true high rise, but these are perfect for me. I’m wearing size 26 regular in the color ‘Medium Wash’. I probably should have ordered the non-curvy jeans to compare, but, I didn’t. 🤷‍♀️

Nordstrom Spring Fashion Try On

Wit & Wisdom Distressed Girlfriend Jeans

These are a nope for me, but disappointingly so. They are super soft and stretchy but the mid-rise just doesn’t look right on me. The website says it’s a 9 3/4 inch rise, which is what I would like, but I measured them and it’s only 9 inches. You can see how they cut me off at just the wrong place. The sizes are often selling out but if you keep checking they do restock them. They run quite large. I ordered 3 sizes to try but size 0 fit me the best. I’m normally a 2 or 4 in jeans.

Ribbed Tank Top

I bought this based on HotandFlashy’s spring outfit ideas video but I did not realize it’s so see-through! I’m even wearing a nude colored bra. I like the wider straps and the soft material, but not in this color. Maybe I’ll try another color. I’m wearing size S in the color ‘White’.

Zella Soft 7/8 Leggings

Definitely keeping these. They are very soft and flattering, just like all the Zella leggings I’ve tried. The have the right amount of compression where it holds everything in place but doesn’t feel like it’s cutting off circulation. These are really easy to pull on and stay in place. Similar to the Old Navy leggings, the 7/8 length is super flattering. There are pockets on the sides but I don’t really like the weird bulge on the side of my leg from my phone so I rarely use the pockets unless I’m wearing them around the house. I’m wearing size S in the color ‘grey odyssey crossdye’. They have been on sale for a while so I don’t know if that means that they are discontinuing them or what but they still have all the sizes so I guess that’s a good sign.

J. Crew Denim

J. Crew is the only retailer out of all of these that doesn’t offer free return shipping so I only ordered 1 size of the 2 pairs of jeans I bought. I really wish we had a J. Crew store around here but we only have a Factory store at the outlets. Ah, well.

J. Crew White Curvy Skinny Jeans

I was hoping to have a few more white jeans in my spring fashion try on, but I didn’t find many that I liked, except these. They are relatively thick, which means they are not totally see-through, but I would never recommend wearing flashy underwear under any pair of white pants. Stick with a color underwear that matches your skin tone and make sure you stand in the sunlight at home to test the see-through-ness. I’m going to keep these because it’s so difficult to find a good pair of white jeans. I got them in size 26 since they are the “curvy” fit and some of the reviews say they run large. I half wonder if I should have tried the 27 to see if they would fit since these are pretty tight. But at the same time, I don’t want them to sag. White jeans are not an everyday choice for me since I don’t want to get them dirty, so I don’t mind if they’re not the most comfortable pair of jeans in my closet. I love the super-skinny leg. I have them cuffed because they are, surprisingly, slightly too long for me. The rise is 11 inches, so they are solidly high rise. I like a high rise in white jeans so they hold everything in. I’m wearing size 26 in the color ‘White’.

J. Crew Slim Boyfriend Jeans

I think these are really close to what I’m looking for in a boyfriend jean. They are not so baggy that they look sloppy but they have a relaxed, lived-in look. I haven’t made up my mind on whether or not I’m keeping them. They’re comfortable but they start to sag a little after an hour or so of wearing them. There is a little bit of distressing on the left leg and the cuffs, plus the whiskering at the hips. They are solidly in the ‘maybe’ category and I have a few other boyfriend jeans on order to try out. I will probably do a whole post just on boyfriend jeans once I try a bunch! The rise is 9.5 inches, which is a good mid-rise for me. I’m wearing size 26 in the color ‘Tea Time Wash’.
