Can I tell you about my boyfriend jeans saga? This is one of those items that everyone says you should have in your spring wardrobe. I can’t say I’ve been a huge fan of this type of jean silhouette in the past but it never hurts to try something again to see if either you have changed or the designers have changed how they are making them. So, I ordered a whole bunch of boyfriend jeans to review and I figured I should write a post about it. Spoiler alert: I didn’t keep any of these jeans! Some of them were really close to what I’m looking for but not quite right so I took a pass. But maybe you can try some and find a pair that you like. On to the mirror selfies!

Amazon Prime Wardrobe Boyfriend Jeans Review
I ordered 5 pairs of boyfriend jeans to review from Amazon and used the Prime Wardrobe service, where you can choose up to 8 eligible items to try-on and only pay for what you keep. (More information and a quick review of Prime Wardrobe at the end of this post).
reCreation Women’s Flexi-fit Girlfriend Jeans
Very comfortable and stretchy and they didn’t sag after wearing them for a bit. The waistband is stretchy, which is great! I don’t like the “whiskering” detail around the hips, though, it just doesn’t look right (even my husband thought so!). They also come in a darker blue wash but it looks like it has the same whiskering effect. Too bad, I like the shape and fit of these and I would have kept them if not for the odd distressing.

Daily Ritual Women’s Standard-Fit Girlfriend Jeans
Daily Ritual is an Amazon brand and I think it’s mid-tier, budget wise. These are pretty stretchy, comfortable, and did not sag. The length is awkward on me, a bit too short. There is minor distressing around the pockets and hem but it didn’t bother me. They’re not quite right on me but they feel like good quality jeans. I love the color, perfect for spring and summer.

Levi’s Women’s New Boyfriend Jeans
I have the hardest time with Levi’s sizing. I’ve tried so many of their sizes in different kinds of jeans and it’s all over the place. I ordered these in 27 but they’re too big and don’t come up high enough in the front for me. Very minor distressing and great light blue color. Good quality jeans. If you like Levi’s mid-rise, try these but order a few different sizes to try on, they seem to run big.

Signature by Levi Strauss Women’s Mid Rise Slim Boyfriend Jeans
Very comfortable, do not sag and more stretchy than the Levi’s above. I don’t like the ripped knees or the whiskering around the hips. I absolutely HATE when I put these on and my foot got stuck in the holes!! 😠I know that probably makes me sound old, but I don’t care. The distressing is just calling attention to all the weird parts of me. If not for the distressing and the ripped knees I would keep these. I may try to find these in another color without all the distressing.

Goodthreads Women’s Mid Rise Relaxed Girlfriend Jeans
This is another Amazon brand that is affordable and good quality. These are very comfortable, have a little stretch to them and they started to sag a little bit after wearing them around the house but not terribly. The length and leg opening are awkward on me, even cuffed. Or maybe I’m just not used to this silhouette of jeans on me yet. The quality of these jeans is really good for the price. No distressing and a nice mid-blue wash.

Gap Mid Rise Girlfriend Jeans Review
I waffled a lot on these jeans. The whiskering detail looks more “natural” than on some of the other ones I tried and the raw hem is a nice touch. The length is pretty much perfect for me and the leg opening isn’t too wide. There was a little too much material in the crotch and I didn’t like that when I walked around in them. If you like Gap jeans, give these a try. I also tried them in size 27 but they were too big so I would say that they run small.

Silver Jeans Co. Beau Distressed Cuff Girlfriend Fit Jeans
I was not impressed with these jeans, especially for the price. They’re too long and there is a gap in the back of waistband when I sit/squat. And again with the whiskering! I need to stop ordering jeans that have whiskering, it’s really not flattering on me. I’m very confused about their sizing, I ordered 28 length but they are definitely 30 inches when I measured. I guess they’re 28 if they’re cuffed!

Wit & Wisdom Distressed Girlfriend Jeans
These are a nope for me, but disappointingly so. They are super soft and stretchy (stretchy waistband!!) but the mid-rise doesn’t look right on me. You can see there is a lot of distressing but nothing like the holes in the Levi’s. The website says it’s a 9 3/4 inch rise, which is what I would like, but I measured them and it’s only 9 inches. They run quite large; I ordered 3 sizes to try but size 0 fit me the best.

J. Crew Slim Boyfriend Jeans Review
These have a nice, relaxed, lived-in feel without looking too sloppy. They’re not very stretchy but they start to sag a little after an hour or so of wearing them. There is a little bit of distressing on the left leg and the cuffs, plus a little bit of whiskering at the hips (but very subtle!). I decided not to keep these as they weren’t as comfortable as I would like.

Pros and Cons of Prime Wardrobe
I wanted to throw in a little pro and con list for Prime Wardrobe. The service is for Prime members only and it allows you to choose up to 8 eligible items of clothing (and jewelry and accessories) to try on without paying up front. They send the items to you and you have 7 days to decide if you are keeping anything. The 7 days starts when the items are delivered. You are only charged for the items you keep (if any).
Pros
- You don’t pay anything up front.
- The items are typically sent all together. I had one pair of jeans arrive separately but the rest were all in one package.
- A pre-paid, adhesive shipping label is included so you don’t have to print anything to return the items. The items come in a resealable box or bag so you don’t even need to have packing tape to send the items back.
Cons
- You only have 7 days to decide. I really cut it close on this one because the items were delivered to me on a Monday but I waited until the weekend to try everything so I had time to take pictures. Most other items ordered from Amazon can be returned within a month, sometimes more.
- Not everything on the site is eligible, not even every size and color of the same item.
- It takes a while for everything to arrive, usually between 5 and 7 days. If I purchased these items in a regular Prime order I would have gotten them in a day or 2 (probably). But I would have to spend the money up front and wait for a refund later.
So, you can see there are an equal number of pros and cons but it’s an interesting way to try clothes and smaller hassle to return items. Have you ever used Prime Wardrobe or would you consider trying it?
